Beaumaris Castle
Beaumaris Castle on the Isle of Anglesey is often described as “the greatest castle never built.” It was the last and most ambitious of King Edward I’s royal strongholds in Wales, designed with near-perfect symmetry and impressive scale. However, due to a lack of money and growing conflict in Scotland, construction was halted in the 1320s, leaving the castle unfinished. Today, the castle remains one of Wales’ most fascinating historic sites and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage collection. Visitors can explore its remarkable medieval architecture, learn about its rich history, and walk along the ancient walls to enjoy stunning views across the Menai Strait and surrounding coastline.
