Prestatyn Beach

Prestatyn is a quieter North Wales seaside town with a relaxed, small-town feel and one of the longest sandy beaches along this stretch of coast. Less crowded than some of the larger Welsh resorts, it's ideal for families looking for a more peaceful day by the sea, with plenty of space for beach games, paddling and long coastal walks. It also scores highly for convenience, with a large car park, plenty of toilets and food outlets all located right by the beach, making family days out refreshingly easy.

The wide promenade runs alongside the dunes and is popular with walkers, cyclists, dog walkers and perfect for children on scooters. The beach itself is clean, spacious and backed by sand dunes, creating a lovely setting for a traditional day by the sea. Whether you're building sandcastles, collecting shells or simply sitting and watching the kids play in the waves, there's plenty of room to spread out and relax.

One of our favourite spots is the Beach Hut Café, which serves a great selection of food and drinks. While there's plenty of indoor seating, it's the outdoor terrace overlooking the beach that makes it feel like you're on holiday. There's also a kiosk nearby serving coffees, ice creams and snacks, making it easy to refuel without straying far from the sand.

Right next to the beach is a children's playground and another cafe called Waves Cafe. it has indoor and outdoor seating and is also combined with the arcades so a great place to spend some time to get out of the sun or shelter from a bit of drizzle. on our visit the field behind the cafe had some fairground rides on too which added even more activities on offer.

Must-do activity

Sometimes the simplest seaside days are the best. Collect shells, paddle in the sea and then grab a drink at the Beach Hut Café before finding a spot outside to relax and enjoy the view. We have happily spent a few hours here just watching the sea, enjoying family time and making the most of the fresh coastal air.
