This brand new Julia Donaldson Room on the Broom trail will be at Delamere Forest for the whole of 2026. The trail has replacing the popular Stick Man trail which was there is 2025. It is short 1 mile loop with interactive boards and fun for all the family and perfect if you love the book just as much as I do.
Along the way, children will:
✨ Join the Witch and her friends on a thrilling woodland quest
🧢 Help track down her lost hat, bow and wand
🪄 Collect magical ingredients to complete a powerful spell
🌳 Discover fun activities, hidden surprises and fascinating forest facts

The trail is a 1-mile circular route, starting and ending near the visitor centre, making it easy to find and perfect for little legs. Even better, the trail itself is completely free to do. However, if you want to add an extra layer of fun, I’d definitely recommend picking up the £4 activity pack from the visitor centre.
The activity pack includes:
A wand-making kit
Stickers
A lanyard
Activity cards
As you make your way around the trail, each board features a fun, interactive activity that ties into the story. The challenge is to help find magical ingredients for the Witch to use in a potion. It’s a simple idea, but it’s been done so cleverly and thoughtfully, especially for younger visitors.
The boards are bright and colourful, with lots of things to turn, push and move, keeping children engaged the whole way around.
One of my personal favourite parts was having to find a stick along the trail to turn into a magic wand, such a lovely, imaginative touch that fits perfectly with the woodland setting.
The path itself is wide and flat, making it suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. When we visited it was a little muddy due to wet weather, so sensible footwear is a must, but overall it’s very accessible.
While the activity pack definitely adds to the experience, you can absolutely still enjoy the trail without buying one, it’s still lots of fun either way.
Turn this fun activity into a full day out in the woods by pairing the trail with a visit to the café, or even extending your adventure with a longer walk into the forest to hunt for the Gruffalo sculptures, perfect if you’re going all-in on a Julia Donaldson theme.
