The Blackpool Tower Eye
The Blackpool Tower Eye

Few landmarks capture the spirit of the seaside quite like Blackpool Tower. Rising proudly above the promenade since 1894, it’s one of those places that feels instantly iconic, whether you’re seeing it from miles away on the drive in or standing right beneath its iron frame craning your neck upwards. On my recent trip, I couldn’t resist the chance to step inside and make the climb to the top. From the history packed into its walls to the breathtaking views waiting at the summit, the experience of going up the tower is something every visitor to Blackpool should try at least once.

👀 First Impressions

Even before reaching top of the tower, the inside of the tower is fascinating. The grand staircase alone is worth a look – far more interesting than just heading straight up in the lift to level five. As we wandered through the corridors, we found them filled with photographs and information about the tower’s rich history, which really set the scene.

🎥 The 4D Cinema

A completely unexpected addition to our visit was the 4D cinema experience. I hadn’t realised this was part of the ticket, so it felt like a real bonus. It was surprisingly fun and interactive – with splashes of water and bursts of air making us feel like we were flying around the tower or standing by the waves. A really great way to start the journey to the top!

🌞 The Lift to the Sky

Next, we stepped into the lift. I loved the fact that there were windows on 2 sides, so we could watch the tower’s structure whizz past as we travelled up. It only takes 69 seconds to reach the top, but the ride itself was an experience.

🍷 The View from the Top

At the top, we were greeted with incredible panoramic views over Blackpool – from the piers and the beach to the streets below. There’s even a bar where you can relax with a drink while soaking in the scenery.

🥾 One of the main attractions is the glass skywalk floor.

Standing on it really tests your bravery – even knowing it can withstand the weight of two elephants doesn’t stop you from hesitating! My daughter absolutely loved it though, and she couldn’t stop peering down at the tiny people below.

☁ Going Even Higher

Another surprise for me was discovering you can actually climb even higher. A set of steps takes you outdoors, surrounded by steel railings and netting so you feel secure. From here, the views were even more spectacular – and yes, you can go up two more sets of steps if you’re feeling extra adventurous.

😃 Final Thoughts

The Blackpool Tower Eye is so much more than just a viewing platform – it’s a full experience. From the history displays and the 4D cinema to the breathtaking views and thrilling glass floor. If you’re visiting Blackpool, I’d highly recommend making the time to do this. It’s an unforgettable way to see the seaside town from a whole new perspective.

What Else is in the Tower

Inside you’ll also find the Tower Ballroom, a grand Victorian dance hall with ornate gold décor, chandeliers, and a famous Wurlitzer organ where people still dance to live music. There’s also the Tower Circus, one of the oldest permanent circus arenas in the world, with traditional acts, clowns, acrobatics, and even a water finale where the arena floor sinks to reveal a pool.

🌇 Sunset Sessions

During the summer you can head up the tower and watch the sunset. Fridays & Saturdays in July and August 7pm - 10pm.

You can enjoy live music with a cocktail in hand as you soak up the atmosphere at the most exclusive bar in town, Bar 380, situated at the top of the tower.
