How to Get the Best Views of London? Take a Trip on The London Eye
The London Eye is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks and a must visit attraction for both tourists and locals. Standing proudly on the South Bank of the River Thames, this giant observation wheel offers breathtaking 360-degree views of the capital. From the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben to St Paul’s Cathedral and even Windsor Castle on a clear day, the London Eye gives you a whole new perspective of London.

It Dominates the Skyline
The experience begins before you even step inside the capsule. As you walk along the South Bank, the London Eye dominates the skyline, with its 32 glass pods slowly rotating.
You can get fabulous photos stood in front of the wheel from the pedestrian walkway but i found the best view was when we walked across Golden Jubillee Bridges and Westminster Bridge so once you have finished your ride i would definitely recommend getting a photo from there to mark your adventure.
Arrive Early
Boarding is smooth and efficient, but you will have to queue just as its such a popular attraction. The wheel is constantly moving but you have plenty of time to get into the capsule and once inside, you’ll notice how spacious the capsule feels and super safe. There is plenty of room to move around and take photos. Inside ours we had about 12 people.
Wow! What a View
As the wheel rises higher, the views become truly spectacular and once you are at the top, Wow! On our visit, the weather was clear and sunny, so we could see far across the city. The gentle pace of the rotation means there’s no rush, you can take your time admiring the city from different angles, getting photos and spotting the people below. My favourite was watching boats driving up and down the Thames. (This would also be a fabulous way to see the city from vet another angle).
Seeing the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben from above was really quite wonderful, such an amazing view point and one you wouldn't be able to get anywhere else.
Did the Kids Enjoy it?
The girls were really excited when they heard we had booked to go on the London Eye. They knew of the iconic wheel but were still surprised by just how big it was in real life and how high up we went in the capsule. Honestly, I think it surprised me too – seeing it on TV doesn’t really capture its true size. It was a hot day so the girls definitely appreciated the air conditioning inside. I loved how they spent most of the ride sitting together on the floor, peering through the glass in absolute awe.
Bucket List Worthy
The London Eye is more than just a tourist attraction – it’s one of those real “bucket list” moments. Every New Year’s Eve I find myself gazing at it on TV, fireworks banging and flashing over the iconic wheel. To me, it’s always symbolised London in a massive way (at least in my head). I’m so pleased I’ve finally ticked this off my experience wish list. If you’re in London, even just for a short stay, make sure you add it to your itinerary.
Special Events
You can book special events inside the capsule including an afternoon tea or an evening sunset with a glass of prosecco. These would be lovely for a special occasion or amazing for popping the question.
