Westport Lake is a popular local nature reserve located just over 2 miles north of Stoke-on-Trent city centre, with a large carpark. Managed by the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust, the site offers a a great place for the whole family to visit for a walk, play or bite to eat. The walk is suitable for all ages and abilities, with a Children's Playground and a gorgeous cafe with views over the lake.

👣Walking at Westport Lake
The main circular walking route around the larger lake is approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) in length. The path is flat, wide, and fully surfaced, making it accessible for wheelchair, pushchairs, children's bikes and scooters. You can choose the distance you want to walk with it being a short loop. Keep to just 1 lap or challenge the kids or yourself to do more.
There is also a smaller lake beyond the main one with an additional short loop trail, offering a quieter walk which is perfect if interested in birdwatching or photography.
🛝Children’s Playground
Located next to the Visitor Centre, there is a large and recently renovated playground with plenty of swings, slides, and climbing equipment. Suitable for both toddlers and older children. With lots of benches for supervising adults and picnics.
☕ Lakeside Café Westport Lake Cafe
The café inside the Visitor Centre serves hot and cold drinks, lunches with sandwiches, snacks, cakes and ice creams. It features cosy indoor seating as well as large windows overlooking the lake and a balcony area with seating for warmer days.

🪿 Wildlife and Nature
The site is known for its rich biodiversity, including swans, ducks, coots, and moorhens. Seasonal migratory birds and occasional sightings of herons and kingfishers. Reed beds and woodland areas that support a variety of small mammals and birds.
Westport Lake is designated as a Local Nature Reserve (LNR) and forms part of the Green Flag Award-winning Stoke-on-Trent Greenway network.
