Greenwood Family Park
Greenwood Family Park

Nestled amongst the trees in the heart of North Wales, is far more than your average theme park. Known as one of the UK’s first eco-friendly adventure parks, it combines outdoor fun, nature, and family-friendly activities in a beautiful woodland setting. From exciting rides and huge play areas to water slides, go-karts, and animal cuddles, there is something for all ages to enjoy.

What makes GreenWood stand out is its relaxed atmosphere and focus on active, outdoor fun rather than big, high-speed rides. It’s the kind of place where children can play for hours, exploring, climbing, sliding, and discovering new activities. Whether you are visiting with toddlers, older children, or even teenagers, GreenWood Family Park makes for a brilliant family day out in North Wales

We were enjoying a short break in Wales and staying at Brynteg Country & Leisure Retreat, which was only a 12-minute drive away, making GreenWood Family Park the perfect family day out.

We visited with older children, who can sometimes be a little harder to impress, but they genuinely had such a great time. We also had the grandparents with us, and they thoroughly enjoyed the day too. Even while the girls were busy running between rides and activities, the grandparents could still be part of the fun, sitting nearby and watching them laugh and enjoy themselves throughout the day.

There were plenty of benches dotted around where the grandparents could sit, relax, and watch the children having fun. It really was the perfect opportunity for three generations to enjoy a day out together without it feeling too overwhelming.

The girls’ favourite attractions were definitely Solar Splash and the Forest Glider. They spent ages running back around for “just one more go” on both rides. Solar Splash became even more entertaining when they started pulling funny faces and striking poses for the ride camera every time they went down.

Here are some of our favourite activities at GreenWood Family Park

Solar Splash

The UK’s first solar-powered ride, Solar Splash is a huge water attraction featuring two 60-metre wavy slides that you ride down in small boats, plus a 91-metre spiral tunnel slide. Standing at 12 metres high, the views from the top across Snowdonia are absolutely stunning before the excitement begins. You definitely need a little bit of bravery for this one. It feels incredibly high when you reach the top, and as you race down the slides the boat can sometimes lift slightly off the track, which makes the whole experience even more thrilling

Green Dragon Roller Coaster
Green Dragon Roller Coaster

Green Dragon Roller Coaster

This is the world’s only people-powered roller coaster. Before the ride begins, passengers walk to the boarding station while their weight helps pull the empty train to the top of the track. Once released, gravity takes over as you race through the forest. It’s a brilliant eco-friendly attraction and surprisingly fast too.

Forest Glider

The Forest Glider is North Wales’ longest ring ride, and it really picks up speed. The girls loved racing each other down the 75-metre track in separate rings, and they also loved riding together in a larger ring. It’s suitable for children over 100cm, but there’s also a smaller sledging version nearby for younger children.

Moon Karts

The pedal-powered Moon Karts were one of the funniest activities of the day. Me and the girls’ dad got completely carried away racing around the track with the children as passengers. We were pedaling like our lives depended on it, although the uphill section definitely finished my legs off after three laps. Exhausting, but so much fun.

Treetop Towers

Treetop Towers is a huge wooden climbing structure filled with netted walkways, climbing areas, and tube slides. Once the kids disappear inside, you probably will not see them again for a while. Our top tip would definitely be to grab a seat near the entrance and enjoy five minutes of peace while they burn off some energy.

Cuddle Corner

Cuddle Corner was another lovely addition to the park. Children can meet guinea pigs and rabbits, and at certain times during the day there are supervised petting sessions where the animals are brought out for gentle strokes. Rabbits are always a huge hit with my children.

Enchanted River Ride

We were gutted to have missed this ride. I didn't check the map before leaving and it looks an amazing one. You have to work together using padels and ropes to get your boat to travel along the river.

Other activities around the park

  • Archery

  • Barefoot Trail

  • Dragon Maze

  • Craft Area (additional charge)

  • Forest Theatre

  • Den Building

  • Giant Jumping Pillow

  • Enchanted River Ride

  • Indoor Soft Play

Food & Drink

The main place to eat is the Woodbarn Café, which has indoor seating located right beside the soft play area. It is the perfect spot to sit down for lunch while the children continue burning off energy. The menu includes family favourites such as burgers, hot dogs, jacket potatoes, toasties, children’s meals, cakes, ice creams, and hot drinks.

There are also smaller snack huts and kiosks around the park selling drinks, sweet treats, and quick bites, which was ideal for mid-afternoon ice creams and little snack stops throughout the day.

There were plenty of picnic benches too, so bringing your own lunch is also a great option. The woodland setting makes it such a lovely place to sit and relax before heading back off to explore the park again.

Is Greenwood worth a visit?

Overall, we had such a fantastic day at GreenWood Family Park. It is one of those rare family attractions that genuinely caters for all ages, from toddlers right through to grandparents. The mix of outdoor adventure, eco-friendly rides, beautiful woodland surroundings, and relaxed atmosphere made it feel much more easy going than a normal theme park.

If you are visiting North Wales and looking for somewhere fun, active, and family-friendly, GreenWood Family Park is definitely worth adding to your list.
