We recently stayed for 3 nights in May as a family of six, with three generations holidaying together in a Gold Lodge. Overall, we had a lovely stay and found the park to be a fantastic place for a relaxing family break.

The Lodge

Our 3-bedroom Gold Lodge was a great size for a larger family group. While the bedrooms themselves were quite compact and mainly just fitted the beds, the main living area more than made up for it.

The open-plan lounge, dining, and kitchen space felt modern, spacious, and very comfortable. There was a huge L-shaped built-in sofa, a cosy dining area, and a well-equipped kitchen where we could easily cook breakfasts and prepare snacks. It worked perfectly for family time, giving everyone space to relax together in the mornings and evenings.

Our lodge was tucked away in a peaceful and private spot, complete with a small outdoor seating area. Walking around the park, though, we noticed some truly stunning lodges with large decking areas, outdoor furniture, hot tubs, and incredible views across the lake, parkland, and rolling hills.

Restaurants & Bars

There are two places to eat on site, the main restaurant and the Boathouse.

The Boathouse

The Boathouse is without doubt one of the highlights of the park. It sits right beside the lake, with a beautiful terrace overlooking the water and surrounding mountains. On a sunny evening, sitting outside with a drink and enjoying the scenery feels incredibly relaxing.

We visited on the Friday night. The menu mainly focuses on pizzas, but there are also rotating specials which add a bit more variety.

Between us, we ordered a chicken burger, veggie Thai curry, Chinese chicken, and a steak pie. All of the meals were generous in size and well presented. Prices were slightly on the expensive side, with most mains around £15 or more, but the portions definitely helped justify the cost.

The staff were fantastic, friendly, welcoming, and happy to chat. One member of staff mentioned that if guests were still outside enjoying the terrace and views, they were often flexible with closing times, which was a really nice touch.

The Main Restaurant

Although the main restaurant doesn’t have the same lake views as the Boathouse, it still has a lovely atmosphere. It felt stylish, cosy, and perfect for a relaxed family meal.

The menu offers plenty of choice, so there should be something to suit most tastes. The children’s menu included all the usual favourites, and a main meal plus dessert cost £9.45, which felt reasonable.

We ordered the meat feast pizza, which was impressively large, along with a cheese and onion pie, sausage and mash, and the ultimate beef burger. Everything arrived quickly and was really enjoyable.

The restaurant also hosts evening entertainment, including live music and seasonal events, which helps create a fun atmosphere around the park.

Swimming Pool

My daughter and I went swimming late on Saturday afternoon and really enjoyed it.

The pool was warm, spotless, and large enough to properly swim in rather than just splash around. There was also a warmer whirlpool area which we kept hopping in and out of while playing games together.

The only downside was the lack of seating around the pool. There were just three loungers available, and they filled up quickly.

That said, the pool itself was a brilliant facility and a real bonus for the park.

There wasn’t a lifeguard on duty during our visit, so it’s worth keeping a close eye on children. The changing rooms were clean and practical, with large family cubicles, hairdryers, and lockers that required a £1 coin.

Spa & Other Facilities

The park also has a spa area featuring a sauna, steam room, wellbeing room, and a brand-new hydrotherapy pool. We didn’t use these facilities as children aren’t allowed, but it looked like a lovely area for adults wanting a more relaxing experience.

Children's Playground at Brynteg
Children's Playground

Children’s Playground

Just outside the main restaurant and swimming pool building is a fantastic wooden playground. The large castle-themed climbing frame was a huge hit with children, and the fact it’s fully enclosed with fencing made it feel very safe and secure.

Other Things To Do

There are plenty of additional activities around the park, including:

  • A Gym with a good range of equipment

  • A sports court with tennis and basketball hoops

  • Outdoor table tennis

  • Nature trails around the site

  • Scenic walks around one side of the lake

Any Negatives?

The only real downside for us was the bedroom size in the 3-bedroom Gold Lodge. Space around the beds was quite tight, and you had to squeeze through narrow gaps to get in and out.

However, because the main living area was so spacious and comfortable, it didn’t impact our stay too much.

If bedroom space is important to you, I’d definitely recommend checking the accommodation layouts before booking, as some lodges appear to have much larger bedrooms.

Also, make sure you check the Boathouse opening times carefully, as they vary throughout the weekend. We specifically chose to visit on the Friday evening so we wouldn’t miss the chance to sit outside on that gorgeous terrace with a drink as it closed much earlier on a Saturday and Sunday.

Final Thoughts

The standout features for us were definitely the stunning lake views, the spacious lodge living area, the warm swimming pool, and the relaxed atmosphere throughout the park.

We had a really enjoyable family break and would happily return. The combination of beautiful scenery, comfortable accommodation, good facilities, and so many fab days out just a short drive away made it a great choice for a multi-generational getaway.
