Parking

When staying at the hotel you get free parking. Which is normally £12 when visiting for the day. You park by the hotel and access the park via an entrance just for hotel guests by Galactica. This is a much shorter walk of only 5 mins rather than the usual 20 to the main entrance. You have to show your hotel booking to use this entrance as well as your day tickets. You also have to show your hotel booking to exit the carpark so the staff know that you don't have to pay for parking.

At the end of the summer holidays, we packed our bags and headed off for a short break to visit the theme park but to also for our first ever visit to Splash Landings Waterpark.

First Impressions

The moment you walk into Splash Landings, you noticed the bold colours, beach-hut vibes, tropical décor, and playful details. It’s loud, lively, and unapologetically geared towards kids having fun. Everywhere you look there is something wacky and brightly coloured.

Themed Rooms

• Beachcomber Rooms – bright and cheerful, sleeping up to 6 guests.

• Pirate Rooms – fully themed with treasure-chest décor, PlayStation, and captain’s quarters styling.

• Ice Cave Rooms – a cool, glacier-themed option for something a little different.

🏖 Beachcomber Room

We stayed in one of the Beachcomber Rooms, and it was perfect for a family break. The room was big and spacious with bright decor and kept to the tropical theme which the hotel is known for. The layout made things easy, a double bed for mum and dad, bunk beds for the kids, a big dressing table with coffee making facilities and space for your belongings and plenty of plugs for charging your phones before a day in the park. Out of our window we had a view of the outdoor pool of Splash Landings which was pretty cool. There was plenty of room for everyone without feeling cramped and room for a travel cot if needed. The theming is a little quirky, with a big pineapple lamp, I personally loved the colourful and fun room.

🤽‍♀Waterpark Fun

A big highlight of staying here is the Alton Towers Waterpark, which is right inside the hotel. You can head down in your swim gear without even stepping outside – a massive win when you’re with kids. If you’d rather change there, the waterpark has plenty of facilities, including family-sized changing rooms, showers, and hairdryers.

The waterpark itself is like a massive splash park, with water cannons, buckets tipping over your head and jets of water shooting out from pipes. There’s Lagoona Bay, where you can have a little swim or play with a beach ball, and in the summer months you can also head outside to the outdoor pool with bubbling hot tubs. We spent most of our time in the lazy river, floating around on rubber rings and getting splashed by all the fun water features.

I was surprised to only find three slides – my girls love them and would have loved there to be more. Sadly, we picked a busy slot (12–2.30), when there was a 50-minute wait for the main slide, the Master Blaster. We didn’t want to waste time queuing, so we gave that one a miss. The other slides had queues too, but these were more like 20 minutes, and we did enjoy them. Next time, though, I would definitely get there for opening and book the first slot.

⛳ A Round of Extraordinary Golf

After drying off, we headed over to the Extraordinary Golf course, which is free for hotel guests. It’s a mini golf course themed around some of Alton Towers’ most famous rides. As a hotel guest you don't need to book, just turn up and show your room card so it was great to have the flexibility of when we wanted to play. Its open till 8pm so a good evening activity. We liked recognising the rides from the theme park, and it was just good simple fun while on our break.

🍔 Food & Evening Entertainment

You can have dinner at Flambo’s Jambo, the hotel’s buffet restaurant. It’s very family-friendly – loads of choice, from pizza and pasta to salads and roasts but it on the pricy side £30 for adults, £20 age 12 - 17, £13.50 for age 4 - 11, tots are £5.25. Because of this we actually chose to get some food from the Dragon Bar in The Alton Towers hotel.

🍕 We ordered a pizza to share, chips and onion rings. All this cost £31.50 plus we had some crisps and cookies back at the room. I must say the pizza wasn't the best. We ended up having to wait an hour for it, as the first time our buzzer wasn't working, so when i went up to the bar to ask about the pizza it had been sat there ready for a while, they offered to re make it, but again the buzzer didn't go off and again 30mins later i went up and the pizza was sat there ready.

🍸 Garitta’s Bar

With its lively tropical terrace theme, Ma Garrita’s Bar is the perfect place to unwind at Splash Landings Hotel. It offers fun, exotic cocktails, beers, wines, and light bites. In the evenings it comes alive with singers, quizzes, and entertainment. Located just opposite the reception desk, the bar also boasts fantastic views overlooking Waterpark below.

🦜 What we like is how you can go between Splash Landings and The Alton Towers hotel. We had a drink in both bars, Dragon bar, inside The Alton Towers Hotel, is still family friendly but is more cosy and has their pirate boat centre piece where the live singers perform from.

Breakfast Time

We had pre booked our breakfast slot a few days before we arrived. Our 8am slot was a busy one but we didn't have to wait too long and we could easily help ourselves to the buffet even though all the tables were full.

The breakfast is a buffet, help yourself style. It had all the standard items including a cooked breakfast area, cereals, pancakes, juices, muffins and fruit. Obviously, you can fill your boots as its all you can eat and it does set you up for a busy day in the park. If i was to improve it, it could have been a little more fancier and maybe a bit more choice of cereals as they were very basic ones. My girls were happy with their pile of muffins, watermelon, pineapple and pain au chocolates.

🎢 Theme Park Thrills

Of course, the main event of our stay was going into the Alton Towers Theme Park itself. Being able to walk just 10 minutes to the Galactica entrance made things so much easier.

Me and my eldest went in on both days. On the first day, we headed over after the waterpark and golf for a couple of hours and managed to get on four big rides, as the park was open until 7pm. The next day, we were in the park from 9am until 2pm and got on eight big rides. We thought we did really well, especially as there were some long queue times in general, but we made a strong start by joining the queue for Wicker Man just before it opened at 10.

Amazing Staff

One thing that did stand out for me over our whole stay was the staff. The reception staff were so good helping with checking in and answering all my questions. The breakfast staff were fab and friendly. And even when we had the buzzer problem with our evening pizza order the staff were so good about it.
